Swellable Isolation

TAQA's SwellRight range of swellable packers and sleeves, plus swellable seals and sealing systems for safety valves and gas lift.

The whole line is built on TAQA's proprietary osmotic swell compound technology, field-proven across a range of temperature and salinity profiles.

SwellRight Retrievable Packer

Designed to isolate the wellbore whilst enabling the easy removal of the entire assembly from the wellbore without any milling operations. Can be designed to be utilised with monitoring systems as part of TAQA's Guardian Zonewatch range, isolating the wellbore into multiple zones for independent pressure and temperature measurements from each. Comes with feed-thru slots to enable cable to be passed through the packer and clamped to the pipe. This single-element design uses a patent-pending technology to provide high performance over short element lengths. Released by straight pull, releasing the sealing element and enabling the assembly to be pulled out of hole.

SwellRight Permanent Packer

A field-proven permanent packer to reduce well construction costs, extend well life, and improve well integrity. A simple and effective zonal isolation solution for compartmentalisation frac applications. After swelling, the element maintains flexibility and is able to react to subsequent changes in wellbore geometry. Available with an oil, water or hybrid swelling elastomer. This single-element design uses a patent-pending technology to provide high performance over short element lengths, bonded directly to the base pipe.

SwellRight Feed-Thru Packer

A permanent packer that provides the long-term stability and reliability required to isolate producing zones. Typically designed for use alongside TAQA's advanced completions DTS technology. Available with an oil or water swelling elastomer; depending on the amount of surrounding rubber, able to house single or multiple 0.25" control lines. Based on TAQA's proprietary osmotic water-swell compound, the elastomer technology is field-proven across a wide range of installations, temperatures and salinity profiles.

SwellRight Sleeve

A field-proven swellable sleeve to reduce well construction costs, extend well life, and improve well integrity. A permanent solution providing the long-term stability and reliability required to isolate producing zones. Primarily intended for fast-turnaround applications, and particularly suited for land wells in remote locations. Low-profile, slide-on sleeve, mechanically grub-screwed onto the base pipe, with end-rings supplied separately for installation ease.

SwellRight Elite Sleeve

A cost-effective alternative sleeve for use in horizontal applications, developed by TAQA. Utilises patented technology to provide a sleeve without an internal core while ensuring the stability and pressure ratings required for vertical and horizontal applications. TAQA's proprietary elastomer technology has an extensive track record, generating more radial seal force than any other swellable on the market. Rated up to 3,000psi, the Elite sleeve can be oil, water or hybrid swell, suitable for temperatures between 32°F and 482°F (0°C and 250°C).

SwellRight Ultra Sleeve

A field-proven swellable sleeve to reduce operational costs, improve well integrity and extend the life of the well. A permanent solution, bonded to a metal core (unlike the core-less Elite), with the highest pressure rating of the three sleeves (up to 5,000psi). Compatible with both ball-activated stimulation valves and plug-and-perf frac methods. Designed for fast turnaround to suit a range of applications.

Swellable O-Rings

Swellable O-rings designed to provide sealing and zonal isolation for a range of applications. TAQA has the in-house capability to custom-design a range of sealing solutions, from non-standard diameters to unique fluid parameters. Patented elastomer technology is designed to deliver extremely reliable zonal isolation barriers across a range of temperature and salinity profiles. Designed to swell within available control-line fluid and manufactured in water or oil swelling compounds, O-rings can also be used alongside chevron stacks to utilise the seal space on the bore ID. Easy to install: they slot into the required groove and swell once the fluid has come into contact.

SwellStack™

Wireline-retrievable SwellStack™ solution for DHSV applications, qualified to seal gas at pressures up to 10,000 psi in damaged seal bores.

In tubing-retrievable safety valves, repeated wireline operations can damage the upper and lower seal bores, particularly when no protective sleeve is installed. Longitudinal grooves in these sealing surfaces can compromise the performance of conventional V-stack seals, which are typically qualified on new, undamaged bores.

TAQA and Wellvene developed a dedicated SwellStack™ configuration to restore sealing capability in these conditions. The system has been qualified to seal gas at pressures up to 10,000 psi in seal bores with wireline-induced grooves up to 1.65 mm deep.

SwellRight™ Side Pocket Mandrel Plug

Side Pocket Mandrels (SPMs) house gas lift valves, typically 1 in. or 1½ in., allowing gas to be injected from the annulus into the produced fluid stream to assist hydrocarbon lift.

TAQA’s SwellRight™ Side Pocket Mandrel Plug is designed to isolate damaged or leaking Side Pocket Mandrels and gas lift valves. The system uses a dummy valve fitted with a swellable elastomer that seals against the mandrel bore, restoring isolation where conventional seals are no longer effective.

TAQA’s proprietary elastomer technology enables sealing configurations to be tailored to different diameters and fluid conditions. Water- and hydrocarbon-activated swellable elastomers are available, with an operating temperature range from 0 °C to 250 °C (32 °F to 480 °F) and continuous working pressure up to 5,000 psi
