Swellplug

An isolation material designed to be easily pumped and then expand, creating a high-pressure seal. Made from a swellable elastomer combined with an activated fiber, this combination creates a reliable three-dimensional structure that conforms to the space available, from small micro-fractures to large voids. Commonly used for zonal isolation, water shutoff, casing repair, P&A and more. TAQA presents it as “a simple, pumpable, durable alternative to casing patches, cement and other complex remediation tools.
Applications:
· Sustained annular pressure: isolate micro-annular cracking; isolate uncemented annular.
· P&A: additional barrier; base for cement to mitigate losses.
· Casing integrity: repair damaged casing without milling.
· Water control: isolate target water zones/perforations.
· Loss control: stop losses while drilling; underground blowout mitigation.
· Cement additive: offset shrinkage; poor water-based mud clean-up; micro-annular mitigation.
· Recompletion/refrac: full wellbore isolation with no ID restriction.
· TAQA presents it as “a simple, pumpable, durable alternative to casing patches, cement and other complex remediation tools”; describes its swell mechanism as “proprietary” and itself as a “permanent isolation solution” (verbatim claims). TAQA-documented field cases include repairing a casing breach at 18,130ft (third-party confirmed 88% flow shut-off), enabling a 46-stage refrac after a casing repair, and reducing water cut by 3,000bpd in a Permian Basin well.
